Personen Namen Datei (PND)

The first provides interlinking on mainly historical persons. The syndication based on the Personen Namen Datei (PND)-Key provided by the German National Library. The PND is widely used in projects like

• the catalogue of the German National Library
• Wikipedia (de)
• the Professorenkatalog of Leipzig University
• the Wikipedia People Search
• ISGV.

The full list of projects that are linked are listed here.

Especially the use in Wikipedia and the cross links to other languages in combination with DBpedia will syndicate more end more information about historic persons.

How to use it?

The service link is http://linkedhistory.aksw.org/pnd/, followed by the PND.

Example:

• Prof. Dr. phil. Levin Ludwig Schücking (1878–1964)

The output is configurable by using the HTML followed by an «/» or "." and one of the parameters.

• HTML (default), RSS, RDF, RDFXML, NTRIPLES

How to participate?

We like to invite all research groups to add their databases to this service.

• publish your database on the web 
• provide a link to the persons in your database by using the PND key 
• create an PND-BEACON File and publish this on Wikipedia here.

Implementation

The source code of the project is open and allowes to setup a own linked history service.

Current Status

• The Service was officially launched on 20th June 2010.
• Only default HTML and RSS result sets will be supported at the moment.
• Starting from 14th of February 2011 the Service has been improved
• Format RDFXML and NTRIPLE added
